Introduction

Our theme in 2009 is“Global Mobility Innovation”
A new wave of technological innovation
accelerates automobile evolution

Nikkei Business Publications organized an international event AT International on car electronics in July, 2008. This inaugural event was very successful, thanks to 180 exhibitors and over 20,000 visitors. We, as an organizer, are quite pleased about having been able to inspire discussions about the future of automobiles among engineers of the car industry and the electronics industry, and emit information about the latest technology to numerous people. We are confident that our first AT international Forum has made significant contribution to many in the industries.

Now, we have already started preparing the next AT International. The editors of Nikkei Automotive Technology and Nikkei Electronics commenced the planning in order to spark up this year’ s arguments further and look for appropriate subjects for the next year.

AT International 2008

The main theme for 2009 is ‘Global Mobility Innovation’. Technological innovations in the automobile will occur worldwide. In our next event, ideas that dramatically change the notion of mobility will be introduced.
So we would like to propose three sub-themes.

2009年3つのサブテーマElectrically-Powered AutomobileFrom hybrid to plug-in electric vehicles—evolution of the automobile brought by the technological innovation of batteries will be focused.

Making Automobiles More Intelligent:Cars are becoming intelligent at an accelerated rate, thanks to sophistication of the microcomputer and the diversification of sensors. We will deliver the latest technologies that realize safer cars.

Automobile and Information Technology:Networking of automobile is just non-stoppable now. Not only is each electronic part connected via the nerve network or in-vehicle LAN, the automobile started to connect with social infrastructure. What will happen when cars are connected with the enterprise system of IT ?
We will look ahead into the future.

Those themes will be discussed in even much broader international perspectives than the last time. We pick Germany, China and India as focus areas and deepen our discussions as to how the issues of the auto industry in each area will affect the global market in the future.

I am already anxious about meeting you again at the new venue of Yokohama Pacifico and talk about the future of automobile technology in July 2009.
