Indie Game Area

This area gives game developers the opportunity to exhibit games for every platform for the objective of generating new trends in the computer entertainment industry.

When you exhibit in Indie Game Area, select a type of booth among three, Selection booth(free), General booth and Turnkey booth. Selection booth is free to exhibit supported by sponsor companies. You need to apply Selection booth in April when application starts. Only applicants who pass the screening will be entitled to exhibit at Selection booth. As for General booth and Turkey booth, any exhibitors who meet the criteria described below can exhibit.

Selection booths in Indie Game Area are linked with SOWN. SOWN is the idea contest which awards excellent games among Selection booth exhibitors. Nominated exhibitors are entitled to present their games on the large stage. Refer to the page for the details of SOWN.

To be SOWN finalist you need to pass the screening of Selection booth application. SOWN finalists will be decided out of Selection booth exhibitors.

Selection Booth

① To whom wish to apply for Selection Booth, please check whether you meet "Exhibitable Group Qualification" and your work submitted for entry meet "Exhibitable Work“ first, then click on the link below, named “Indie Game Area Selection Booth ENTRY FORM” to fill out the web form and submit it. If you apply for more than one title for Selection Booth, please apply for each one.

② After the application deadline, we are supposed to review all applications to select the titles presented for the exhibition. We will then directly inform individual or company applicants who passed the screening on being selected for a Selection Booth exhibitor.

※Please refer to "What can be exhibited" for selection conditions.

③The exhibitor passed the screening for the Selection Booth are automatically applied for SOWN2019, an "Idea Contests" to choose the best game from the title exhibited at the Selection Booths. They will have a chance to make a presentation at the stage on the evening of 13th September (Friday). Please see the details of SOWN here

※Indie Game Area Selection Booth is half size of Turnkey Booth E, but their booth specification is common. The details of the booth specification can be found in the article on “Indie Game Area Turnkey Booth E” in 「TGS2019 Guide for Package Booth

Group or Organization that can be exhibited

・For annual sales of organizations that attempt to exhibit:

Corporate : Annual Sales with USD500,000/JPY50 Million or less

Individual : Annual Sales with USD100,000/JPY10 Million or less

・For companies or organizations that try to exhibit at Indie Game Area, the exhibitors must be financially independent.

(For example, the capital of major game company is not in.)

What can be exhibited

・A completely original game (Derivative content cannot be exhibited regardless of whether or not it is licensed.)

・Created for a platform for which an applicant has the right to develop.

・Works that comply with the CESA Code of Ethics and the CERO Code of Ethics(http://www.cero.gr.jp/en/publics/index/18/) and do not fall under any of the following items:

1) An expression that conflicts with or that may conflict with Attached Table 3 "Prohibited Words and Phrases" of the CERO Code of Ethics(http://www.cero.gr.jp/en/publics/index/18/) is included.

2) Works for which an "Z" rating category was assigned by CERO or an expression equivalent to the"Z" rating category may beincluded.

3) Works that have already been released overseas and for which a "17+" (MATURE) rating category was assigned by an overseas examination body (e.g. ESRB).

4) Works planned to be released overseas for which a "17+" (MATURE) rating category is expected to be assigned by an overseas examination body (e.g., ESRB) (excessively bloody works that cannot be regarded as being equivalent to a "13+" (TEEN) rating category.

    At first, Entry to Application Form for Selection Booth [Indie Game Area]​

  • Qualification

    Open to all individuals regardless of nationality, age, or occupation (students, game producers, etc.) and to all corporate bodies.​

  • Screening

    First, Entries will be screening the Selection Booth[Free] of Indie Game Area by the Screening Committee.​
    After, Indie Game [Selection Booth] Area Management Office will contact to selected applicants by mid-July.​

  • Schedule

    <1>Deadline : Friday, June 14 (Japan Time) 2019​

    <2>Results :

    <Indie Game Area : Selection Booth> mid-July 2019​
    <SOWN Finalist> mid-August 2019​

  • Notice

    SOWN Finalist will be selected from Indie Game Area [Selection Booth / Free] applicants.​
    Indie Game Area [Selection Booth / Free] passer have to join TGS 2019 (Makuhari-Messe, Japan), Sep 12-15 2019. ​
    Transportation expenses must be paid by yourself.​
