Newzoo Releases 2023 Global Games Market Report

Newzoo, the primary source for games, gamers, and games market data, launched its highly anticipated free version of its 2023 Global Games Market Report.

Its latest free report confirms console's $56.1 billion revenue will drive market growth in 2023. The report includes in-depth analyses of industry trends, forecasts, and changing business models, including:

The global games market will generate revenues of $187.7 billion in 2023, a +2.6% year-on-year growth.
Console games will account for 30% of 2023's global total, making console the #2 segment behind mobile.
By the end of 2023, mobile's share of the pie will drop to less than half for the first time in years.

The console segment will be 2023's biggest revenue growth driver, with +7.4% year-on-year growth. This year's release calendar has an unprecedented number of highly anticipated hit titles due in part to delays caused by the global pandemic. Several of the biggest games initially slated for release in 2020-2022 all launched in 2023 instead. These include H1's multi-million-selling blockbusters, Hogwarts Legacy and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

All signs indicate that the industry will stabilize after some pandemic- and platform-induced turbulence. The global games market will generate yearly revenues of $212.4 billion in 2026, with all segments growing to differing degrees.
